Tesla will stop the assembly of Model S and Model X for 18 days beginning on Christmas Eve but the news could prove a welcome development for fans of the all-electric sedan and SUV. The production break is seen as the automaker implementing key hardware adjustments, likely resulting in a much-awaited design refresh.

The temporary production was contained in an email sent out by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, which informed the company workers that the work stoppage on the Model S and Model X will commence on December 24. The employees concerned will be given compensation that is equivalent to a full week of pay.

Those who wished to waive the time off can volunteer to production lines that roll out other Tesla EV models, which indicated that the automaker's manufacturing activities are in full swing. And this is giving credence to the speculations that the Model S and Model X will be getting an upgrade.

While there are no signs from Tesla that the flagship EVs are lined up for a major design bump, the 18-day production holiday should be an ample time for the automaker to apply the rumored redesign of the vehicle lines. As Teslarati suggested, Tesla is known for introducing changes without announcement so it is fair to assume that the company is working on a big surprise.

If the rumors will prove correct, then the Model S and Model X that will roll out from Tesla's Fremont factory in 2021 will be the better versions of the previous releases. But what exactly to expect from the revision remains to be seen.

The EVs as the subject of an upcoming design change was recently tipped by Tesla's decision to increase their sticker prices in Europe. At the same time, the company announced that the delivery of the vehicles will see a slight delay, and these indicators further triggered the talks of possible reworking of the Model S and Model.

The Model S, for instance, is largely the same vehicle that Tesla is pushing out of the production line since 2016. The sedan improved performance-wise over the years but the look and build stayed the same, according to Electrek.

The Model S was supposed to receive an interior redesign a few years back but per the same report, Tesla pushed back on the plan to focus on the ramping up of Model 3 production in Fremont.

Now, the Model 3 is geared for record delivery in 2021 and Tesla can very well afford to turn the spotlight on the Model S and Model X. it seemed likely that Musk is taking advantage of the holiday break to make the EVs a more compelling buy next year.
