An amazing month for stargazers will include a spectacular night with meteors on December 13, when the Geminid Meteor shower peaks.

The shower lasts from December 4 through December 17 but will be at its peak on the night of December 13 to the early morning of December 14. The winter shower will be the most active one in 2020. It's a remarkable display every year, but this year you can expect to see about 100 meteors every hour, NASA said. Other figures even reach as much as 150 per hour at the peak of the shower in ideal conditions, which EarthSky says this year is a possibility.

Here's what you need to know about the Geminids in 2020.

There's a chance to see the meteors as soon as it gets dark. The best time to look up, however, is late as Earth faces a field of debris left behind by asteroid 3200 Phaethon, which causes the meteor shower. For most showers, this is normally local time after midnight, but astronomers propose that the stargazers start at 2 a.m. local time to see the highest number of meteors.

This is the best time for the Geminids since it is when the Gemini constellation, the radiant point of the meteor shower, or the location from which the meteors seem to emanate, is at the highest point in the sky. But if you're in the southern hemisphere where the Geminids are not as impressive, you might want to get a little closer to midnight.

Luckily, the moon is not going to rise at that point, and we're right around the new moon. This is going to make a perfect year for the Geminids because the moon will not allow any light emissions to block your view. But all of Geminid's meteors are easy to spot. It's a shower that's abundant with fireballs that are brighter than the regular meteor.

Besides the clear sky, you're going to have to get a really dark spot. You won't see any in the city because of the potential light pollution that might obscure meteors for miles and miles around cities. Light Pollution Map and Dark Site Finder will help you find dark places next to you. Then you'll want to face south for the perfect chance to see as many meteors as you can. If you have clear weather, it's going to be a fantastic show.
