Car designer Frank Stephenson understands the concept of beauty and he is convinced the Tesla Cybertruck failed to hit the minimum mark. Design-wise, the all-electric pickup truck has too many faults that Stephenson concluded it would become outdated and rather too soon.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk advertised the Cybertruck as a futuristic and powerful machine but Stephenson observed Musk was guilty of overselling his product. The designer, celebrated for his works with premium vehicle brands such as BMW, Ferrari, and McLaren, pointed to the Citroen Karin as the better epitome of a forward-looking automobile, and it was released in the 1980s.

The Cybertruck and the Citroen Karin both made use of the angular design but Stephenson said the latter has a greater appeal to the senses. The former's design approach is sterile and inhospitable, thus ending up as seemingly hostile to the environment.

According to Futurism, Stephenson likened the Tesla pickup to the first Sony PlayStation, the gaming console that lost its appeal with surprising speed. The toy was forgotten too easily and the auto designer predicted the Cybertruck is bound to suffer the same fate.

Surely, when the Cybertruck was first unveiled in November 2019, the look and design failed to attract unanimous approval. Musk claimed, the truck's reservation has already reached hundreds of thousands since the introduction but he admitted as well that the EV has a polarizing effect.

Many loved what they saw and insisted that the Cybertruck has a charm of its own. But many more rejected the EV's aggressive design and Teslarati noted that Musk seemed open to the likelihood of the Cybertruck becoming a dud on the account of its looks alone.

The Tesla boss said if that would be the case, then he is ready to push forward an alternative - still an electrified pickup with the conventional design. Musk allowed the statement following the reveal of the GMC Hummer EV and the all-electric Ford F-150 that no doubt tickled the excitement of the pickup-loving crowd.

Revising the Cybertruck design will be a good move on Musk's part, according to Stephenson. The designer is hoping that the EV unwrapped last year was only a draft and the feedbacks gathered by Tesla since then will be used to finalize a more evolved version of the Cybertruck.

Musk himself admitted that the Tesla Cybertruck is an experiment. The vehicle that was unveiled in 2019 was more geared toward beastly functions and the main agenda is to showcase the truck's monster capabilities.

It remains a possibility that the Cybertruck will gain a more appealing design, if not for the first then possibly for the succeeding generations, and as Stephenson is hoping for.
