It took a long time, but Marvel Studios finally confirmed that Hailee Steinfeld would be playing Kate Bishop in the upcoming Hawkeye series. However, there was a time when people were uncertain whether the Bumblebee star had been chosen to take on the role of Clint Barton's young protege. Interestingly, Steinfeld has revealed that it was easy not to reveal her involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe show, thanks to COVID-19.

Back in 2019, it was confirmed that a Hawkeye series is in development, and it would focus on Clint Barton as well as his protege Kate Bishop. Although it was announced that Jeremy Renner would reprise his role as the Avenger, the role of Kate had not yet been cast at the time. Not surprisingly, this led to several fans casting their favorites for the part, and Hailee Steinfeld was one of the names that were brought up.

It didn't take long before several outlets started reporting about Hailee Steinfeld being considered for the role of Kate Bishop in the Hawkeye series early last year. However, the Pitch Perfect star appeared to be ignoring the news and was even quick to deny the casting when asked. Interestingly, things would change when Steinfeld was spotted on the set of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series and was later announced to be joining the cast during Disney Investor Day.

So why keep it a secret for this long? Hailee Steinfeld obviously wanted the casting to be a surprise. In addition to that, she didn't have a hard time keeping the casting to herself because of COVID-19.

"I guess in a way, it was kind of a blessing in disguise that I didn't and couldn't be around a lot of people, cause that was a hard one to keep to myself," Steinfeld admitted to People. She then stated that she is proud to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I am so honored to be a part of this family that is the MCU," Steinfeld said. Luckily for her, she doesn't have to keep it a huge secret anymore.

The premise of the Hawkeye series is still a mystery. However, there are speculations that the Marvel Cinematic Universe show will actually focus on Kate Bishop instead of Clint Barton. It is believed that the series will cover Clint's retirement and how he trains Kate to be his successor.

The Hawkeye series is currently in production. Although it has not yet been given an official release date, the show is expected to premiere on Disney+ later this year.
