Apple Wallet has made it possible for Los Angeles residents to use the app to store their COVID vaccination records.

The coronavirus pandemic ushered in a new normal that in the future might include establishments or even schools asking someone if they received COVID-19 vaccination. Such inquiry would require an individual to present a record of such vaccination, which in the past include carrying around some papers as proof that they really received it. The problem with this method is that papers can easily be lost or mutilated, which can then force you to secure again a new one. Recently, Apple Wallet announced it is making it possible for Los Angeles residents to store their COVID vaccination record using the app.

In a news report by Bloomberg, Los Angeles County residents who already received their initial COVID-19 vaccination doses can add a digital record of such to their Apple Wallet app. This will make it easier for them to retrieve and show it if anyone asks them if they have received COVID vaccination. It is also a convenient way of tracking the number of doses already received by an individual. Although authorities issue a vaccination card to individuals, that paper card can be easily lost. On the other hand, the Apple Wallet app serves as permanent proof.

According to the news, Los Angeles County entered into a partnership with Healthvana to make it possible for residents in the county to use the Apple Wallet app on their iPhones to store their COVID vaccination records. Healthvana is a patient platform used by healthcare providers to deliver coronavirus test results to patients.

Aside from keeping COVID vaccination records in the Apple Wallet app that Los Angeles County residents can show as proof to anyone who asks, it also helps remind individuals that they need to have a second shot of the two-dose procedure. Both records are safely kept in the Apple Wallet app. In the future, individuals can use such records to gain access to concerts, transportation, particularly airplanes, and many more.

At present, the Apple Wallet vaccination record alerts Los Angeles County residents who already received their first COVID vaccination shot about their second appointment. This is to ensure that each person living in the area received the full dose of the two-dose vaccination. In an interview with Bloomberg, Claire Jarashow, the director of vaccine-preventable disease in LA, expressed her deep concern about the health crisis and the importance of getting a vaccine. "We really want people to come back for that second dose. We just can't be doing hundreds of medical record requests to find people's first doses and when they need to get their second," Jarashow said.
