Elon Musk is on a last-minute push to increase Tesla's total deliveries for 2020. The latest promo advertised by the CEO gives free access to the Full Self-Driving feature for three months, and the incentive is packed with all Tesla EV purchases completed on December 31.

Musk said the freebie is available for all transactions closed in the last three days of the year. Announcing the offer on social media, the Tesla boss made clear that for buyers to get the free FSD deal, all relevant documents of the sale should be filled out and the delivery made before midnight of December 31.

This latest marketing blitz is part of Tesla's efforts to increase the delivery numbers en route to its target of shipping out 500,000 units by the end of 2020. In recent weeks, the automaker sent out a directive to all dealerships in the United States to include free Supercharging access for all Tesla EV purchases.

CNET said while the free FSD offer is limited, it is tempting enough. Tesla started rolling out the autonomous driving feature in a beta release in October but the functionalities can only be experienced after payment of $10,000 for the service.

So it is highly likely that this latest move could spur a surge of sales movement for Tesla before the year draws to a close.

To be clear, while FSD now includes a host of smart features that bring the service close to fully autonomous driving, it is far from complete. In allowing some Tesla owners to take FSD for a spin, Tesla sent out an advisory that the system is not yet ready for a truly hands-free driving mode.

That means staying alert while using FSD is required and Tesla warned beforehand that something could go wrong while the service is activated. However, Musk gave an assurance that the feature will be updated constantly and near-perfection should be achieved as more data is fed into Tesla's AI server.

In any case, these incentives attached with Tesla EV purchases in the last month of 2020 signified that the automaker is working hard to meet its self-imposed delivery target of 500,000 units for the year. The latest figures furnished by the company showed that at least 181,000 units must be pushed out in the quarter to achieve the goal.

Electrek said the need to dangle freebies is Tesla's way of making sure that buyers will take deliveries of their EVs within the given period. There is a strong demand for Tesla's products but it wouldn't hurt to motivate consumers to act fast on their buying decision, added the report.
