Volkswagen made the ID.4 1st Edition available for U.S. buyers but the allotted supply quickly ran out and reports said the German automaker is already working on the second batch of production. The all-electric SUV sold like hotcakes during the first ordering phase but Americans can start placing their reservation anew.

Volkswagen reached out to customers in the United States to inform them that the First Edition of the ID.4 EV will have a second batch of production so they can confirm their existing orders. Many were frustrated when the first batch was opened for ordering as the automaker admitted that the vehicle was sold out in just eight hours.

To be clear, however, the total units offered during the first stage of ordering were not too many. It was understood that for the first batch of production, only a few thousand of the ID.4 were assembled, according to Inside EVs.

Volkswagen's move was understandable as the company wants to see first if the ID.4 will get the attention intended. As it turned out, the new EV got many Americans convinced that the battery-powered SUV is worth the money and so, Volkswagen pressed the button for the assembly line to start humming again.

The company said ordering of the ID.4 1st Edition is live again but when exactly the units will be delivered is still unsure. The automaker has yet to provide a specific timeline but the wait is not expected to be very long.

Volkswagen plans to push out the ID.4 Pro in the U.S. a few weeks from now and it should be safe to assume that delivery of the First Edition will come first. That means that American drivers can take the EV for a spin within January, Electrek said in a report.

The Volkswagen ID.4 as a compelling EV buy is supported by its impressive engineering. The EV makes use of VW's MEB platform and the EPA rates the SUV with a driving range of 250 miles per charge. The car can juice up pretty fast thanks to its 125kW charging system.

Also, the ID.4 boasts not only of a gorgeous look but also of its immense power. Per Volkswagen, the electric SUV's towing capacity is rated at a maximum of 2700lbs, certainly making the EV a beautiful beast.

For those who rushed to get hold of the ID.4 1st Edition, the price to pay amounted to $43,995 and the vehicle is ready to roll this January. The Pro Edition will hit the road soon and the design was trimmed down a bit, thus leading to a lower sticker price of $39,995.
