BTS pride themselves on being extremely close with one another. In fact, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook see each other as a family instead of group members.

Just like most groups, some BTS members are closer than the others. It is also expected that the ones who are close in age have better bonds. Jimin and V, who are both born in 1995, have proven this expectation multiple times. The pair even call themselves “Soulmates” to seal the deal.

As for J-Hope and RM, who are 94-liners, they are also very close but with a twist. According to the “Ego” rapper, his relationship with the BTS leader is 99% close, and 1% complicated.

This revelation seems to confuse RM, so he asked J-Hope to elaborate on his answer. “RM and I are very close. We’re very close, but there’s a little bit that’s complicated and awkward,” JH said.

While J-Hope didn’t say the exact reason why, Suga quickly chimed in and said that he understood JH’s feelings. The “Daechwita” rapper then revealed that he feels the same way towards RM. Jin said that he feels “awkward” towards RM as well.

But this awkwardness had nothing to do with RM’s personality. Jin perfectly summed up his, Suga, and J-Hope’s feelings by saying that it’s because the “Persona” rapper is their leader.

All K-pop members respect and look up to their leader. The reason why only three of the BTS members feel awkward towards RM is because they are older than him. So Jin, Suga, J-Hope see RM as their younger brother but have to treat him like an older member because he’s the leader.

As for Jimin, V, and Jungkook, they don’t feel any awkwardness towards RM because he is older than them. So looking up to him as their leader comes naturally to the younger boys.

Meanwhile, RM and J-Hope previously had a deep talk in one of the episodes of Bon Voyage in Hawaii, where the former shared that he’s envious of the latter. The BTS leader said that he’s just a front, while JH does things behind the scene.

“To be honest, you take care of the stuff. I sometimes miss, though I’m the leader. You’re there for moral support,” RM told J-Hope. “I’m serious. I’m just there as a publicity.”

It is worth noting that RM considers J-Hope as the second leader of BTS. Jin also previously awarded JH the "Next Leader" award.
