BTS is a seven-member group, with one leader (RM), three units (Vocal Line, Rap Line, Dance Line), and an official visual (Jin). Most groups in the K-pop world have these specifications as well. While some have more units than others, one thing is constant — having a leader.

RM has held the position of being the leader of BTS for almost a decade. One position that is normally unknown or doesn’t exist in a K-pop group is a second leader.

J-Hope is mostly known as BTS’s dance leader, but the members have recognized his overall leadership abilities. In 2017, RM picked the “Ego” rapper during the BTS Countdown special event as the member he would make the group’s leader. He noted that JH is “better at organizing” than him.

In 2019, Jin gave J-Hope the “Next Leader” award during their 2020 Season’s Greetings event. The “Moon” singer wrote in the certificate that the 26-year-old rapper, songwriter, dancer, and record producer “has taken care of other members’ mental well-being and maintained the team’s overall positive vibe.” He also added that JH provides stability for them.

So what makes J-Hope the perfect second leader of BTS? According to CheatSheet, the BTS star’s Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) may be the reason why. The site shared that the “Chicken Noodle Soup” hitmaker’s MBTI type is ESFJ, making him an outgoing and caring person towards others.

People who have the ESFJ type are mostly detail-oriented planners. This explains why J-Hope has a very natural leadership skill.

While RM does all the leader obligations in front of the camera and during BTS’s interviews, promotions, and more, J-Hope had been silently taking on responsibilities behind the scenes. JH would usually show his funny side on-cam, but he is a full-on professional off-cam.

In one of the BANGTANTV episodes, J-Hope said that he is "very committed." It just goes to show that everything that he does since the beginning of his career is to work towards his goal, which is very leader material.

“In BTS, I try to be the bridge. I’m very committed,” he said.

J-Hope’s leadership skills have been shown numerous times on BTS’s variety shows such as Bon Voyage and Run BTS! The “Just Dance” rapper would always be the one who settles his members down, especially during their chaotic moments. And despite being the third oldest member of the group, the boys listen to him.
