Barrett Cain (Morris Chestnut) is going to have his own storyline entering The Resident season 4 episode 3. Most of the characters don't get along with this person but it looks like they need to set aside whatever they feel towards him in order to help him.

The Resident season 4 episode 3 comes with the title "The Accidental Patient," which is a reference to what's coming for Cain. He's going to be in a different situation, where he'll need the help of many. His life is in danger and the doctors at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital must save him.

Based on the synopsis, Cain tried to be a hero at a crash scene but he was struck by a car. This prompted the doctors at the hospital to set aside their personal issues towards him and try to save his life. Even though most of them don't really like him, they have to do their best to help him now that he's a patient.

Cain first appeared back in season 3 and managed to stir things up at Chastain shortly after that. He's a neurosurgeon and was promoted as a Chief Surgery by Red Rhodes following Randolph Bell's (Bruce Greenwood) demotion. Now, it looks like he'll be sticking around in the medical drama.

Meanwhile, a lot of other people are in danger in The Resident season 4 episode 3. The crash is going to play out in a huge way, with Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Nic Nevin (Emily VanCamp) trying to help one of the victims. Yet, this person's secretive past makes it hard for them to identify a diagnosis.

Bell, on the other hand, attempted to make a positive impact on Chastain. He brings his TV crew to the hospital, hoping that it would garner positive attention. As for Mina Okafor (Shaunette Renee Wilson), she opens up to Nic, but she finds out later on that the latter is holding on to a secret of her own, as well.

One more episode is arriving before The Resident season 4 episode 3 comes into air. The title of episode 2 is "Mina's Kangaroo Court," which will bring a complicated medical case. Mina and Raptor (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) go head-to-head when Cain's patient returned with complications.

This particular episode will also focus on the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the global health crisis wasn't set in the present timeline of the story, the early days of it caused a huge impact on everyone. Most of them are still dealing with the effect of it.

The Resident season 4 episode 3 airs on Tuesday, Jan. 26, on Fox.
