The Crown season 6 will be the final outing of the historical drama. However, the official release date hasn't been set since season 5 is yet to be released. The story for both installments will, reportedly, cover Queen Elizabeth's reign during the 21st century.

But, the recent interview of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with Oprah Winfrey generated huge headlines, with over 17 million viewers watching the special on CBS live. Now, fans have been wondering whether or not they will be discussed in The Crown season 6.

While this is an interesting storyline for many, it looks like the series won't document the relationship of the two in the series finale. In a past interview with The Hollywood Reporter, series creator Peter Morgan made it clear that he does not like to tell events that are close to the present day.

Morgan said that he is more comfortable writing the events that happened at least 20 years ago. He explained that since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were still in the middle of their journey, he doesn't know "what their journey is" or "how it will end."

Furthermore, the series creator noted that he follows a "20-year rule," which is enough time and distance to understand something. He added that he doesn't want to write about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since it would make it "journalistic," and that a lot of journalists are already writing about them.

Thus, The Crown season 6 will stick with its original plan, which is following Queen Elizabeth's reign in the 21st century. Other members of the royal family will also be focused -- including Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage, as well as the latter's death.

Meanwhile, the fourth season was released in November 2020 and it covered the events from 1979 to the early 1990s. The stories that have been discussed include the introduction of Margaret Thatcher as the Prime Minister and Prince Charles' marriage to the then-Lady Diana Spencer.

Originally, the fifth installment was confirmed to be the series' final run. But, in June 2020, Netflix announced that The Crown season 6 is happening and it will serve as the final outing for the historical drama. It was also revealed that season 5 is set to begin in June 2021, leading to a 2022 premiere.

As for The Crown season 6, the release date remains uncertain as of this writing but filming will, reportedly, begin in 2022.
