Bridgerton season 2 has been officially renewed in January 2021, just less than a month after the release of the freshman period drama on Netflix. The story is based on Julia Quinn's popular novels, which were set in Regency-era London.

Prior to the official announcement of Bridgerton season 2, a lot of fans were convinced that the show is coming back for more. After all, there are a total of eight books where the story is based on. Moreover, the series becomes one of the most popular programs on Netflix shortly after its release.

Meanwhile, it was initially believed that production will begin in March 2021. However, it looks like the date has been pushed back, possibly due to the global health crisis. Now, filming is expected to start at some point this coming Spring, with the 2022 premiere schedule being the earliest.

Bridgerton season 2 won't be the continuation of the first season. Instead, it will follow the story of Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest among the Bridgerton siblings. It was also confirmed that Simone Ashley will be the female lead, playing the role of Kate Sharma.

Although the second installment centers on a different plot, Phoebe Dynevor is still coming back as Daphne Bridgerton and Regé-Jean Page as Simon, the Duke of Hastings. Their story has been given a conclusion in season 1, but they'll continue to be part of the series.

Other returning stars include Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton, Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton, Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton, Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton, Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington, and Polly Walker as Lady Portia Featherington.

As for the story, Bridgerton season 2 sees Anthony finally deciding to get married and already chose a wife. However, his biggest problem is Kate, the older sister of his original love interest. She is determined to stop the wedding of the Viscount and her younger sister.

Kate is a smart, headstrong woman who's willing to whatever it takes to protect her sister. But then, she fears that her heart will become vulnerable because of Anthony. This is going to be the major storyline once the series arrived on Netflix.

Julie Ann Robinsons is directing Bridgerton season 2 once again. The second installment may not be the final one, as well. Creator Chris Van Dusen previously hinted that fans and viewers could end up seeing a total of eight seasons of the period drama.
