A massive container ship blocking the Suez Canal for almost a week, Ever Given, was re-floated on Monday, according to Inchcape Shipping Services, ending a saga that grabbed the world's attention about a key trade chokepoint.

Leth Shipping Agencies said the vessel has been "partially" re-floated, noting the final word would come from the Suez Canal Authority later on Monday.

But Twitter was alive with video from the scene, whic appeared to so the ship had moved away from the shore and straightened out.

The 400-metre (yards) long Ever Given, as tall as New York City's empire State Building, became jammed sideways across a southern section of the canal on March 23, halting shipping traffic and leading to a backlog of vessels at both ends of the waterway.

More than 360 ships were said affected by the halt to Suez Canal traffic, according to shipping data.

Technical manager for the operation to free the ship, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, did not immediately respond to a request to comment

On Monday, a dozen tugboats and specialist dredging equipment were on site to dislodge the ship's bow from a sandbank during the high tide on March 28-29, officials said.
