Chipotle Mexican Grill will give away $100,000 in Bitcoin Thursday as part of the National Burrito Day 2021 celebration, according to Fortune.

Chipotle isn't accepting the digital currency as payment for its Mexican dishes.

To win the cash - or a free burrito - customers can visit BurritosOrBitcoin.com launching Thursday and try to guess a six-digit code.

Each player gets 10 tries and correct guesses could win up to $25,000 in Bitcoin. Chipotle is giving away $100,000 in food.

According to the restaurant chain, 10,000 fans will win one free burrito, 50 fans will win $500 in Bitcoin and three fans will win $25,000 worth.

Chipotle and Stefan Thomas, the founder and chief executive of Coil, are running the game. Thomas is the man who lost the password for a hard drive containing $387 million in bitcoin.

"We are always looking for unique ways to enhance the celebration, and this year, we're giving fans the chance to acquire two highly valuable assets," Fortune quoted Chris Brandt, Chipotle chief marketing officer, as saying in a news release.

Chipotle said it was the first U.S. restaurant to offer a "bitcoin giveaway" to consumers.

Chipotle's recent publicity efforts include an investment in the half-billion-dollar Series C funding round for Nuro, an independent delivery service, the launching of its first Canadian food branch since 2018 and its first Super Bowl TV ad.

Chipotle confirmed to CNN Business its bitcoin giveaway was not an April Fools' prank.
