Powerpuff Girls is an upcoming live-action series based on the Cartoon Network's animated series of the same name by Craig McCracken. The project was first confirmed to be happening on The CW in August 2020. Now, a lot of updates on the casting news are being revealed.

For instance, it was previously announced that Donald Faison will be playing the role of Professor Utonium in Powerpuff Girls. In the reboot, the character is described as a scientific genius who accidentally created the "Powerful Girls."

Faison's Professor Utonium is said to be "debonair with a dash of vanity." He is proud that he created the three girls, but it looks like their relationship won't be in the best place at the start of the live-action series. It can be recalled that, in the cartoon, he created Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup.

He made the three Bs after mixing sugar, spice, and everything nice with Chemical X. Since then, he became a father figure to them and encourages them in every way. Faison's character is seemingly similar to the original one from McCracken's animated series.

Meanwhile, the Powerpuff Girls pilot has been officially ordered in February 2021. Shortly after that, it was confirmed that Dove Cameron will play Bubbles, Chloe Bennet as Blossom, and Yanna Perrault as Buttercup. Yet, they'll be portraying a different version of their characters.

In the reboot, Bubbles, Blossoms, and Buttercup were "bitter, disillusioned twentysomethings" who wished they hadn't missed having a normal childhood due to crime-fighting. However, they must face the choice of reuniting as the world needs them "more than ever."

In addition to the confirmed cast members, Powerpuff Girls also cast its first official villain. Nicholas Podany will be playing Joseph "Jojo" Mondel Jr., the son of the iconic villain Mojo Jojo in the animated series. He is a "nerdy, power-hungry, insecure" kid who's obsessed with Townsville's titular superheroes.

Jojo finds his "sweetness and rage in constant battle" when he became older. He's going to be one of the biggest torn on the girls' side and for the people in Townsville. For now, however, it's yet to be seen whether or not his father will appear in the live-action series.

The reboot is produced by Warner Bros. Television Studios. It is written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier, who also serve as executive producers alongside David Madden, Sarah Schechter, and Greg Berlanti. The original creator, McCracken, is not involved in the project.

Powerpuff Girls title has also been changed and the reboot is now called Powerpuff.
