Peter Pan & Wendy live-action adaptation film finally begins production after encountering a series of lengthy delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was first announced in 2016, with Disney planning to bring the classic 1953 animated movie to life.

Originally, Peter Pan & Wendy was set to kick off production from April 2020 until August of the same year. However, the schedule wasn't followed due to the global health crisis. Now, the good news is that filming already started on March 16, 2021, in Vancouver, Canada, and is expected to wrap up on June 30, 2021.

The movie is based on the novel Peter and Wendy by J.M. Barrie. David Lowery serves as a director, who has an experience in helming live-action remake -- such as Disney's Pete's Dragon in 2016. Jim Whitaker, who also worked in the aforementioned movie, will be producing the latest project.

In a press release, Lowery said he's excited to deliver a new take on the classic story. He noted that he is thrilled to have the opportunity to "redefine J.M. Barrie's iconic characters for a new generation." He further added that he's more excited to do the project with the "exceptional cast and crew."

The cast of Peter Pan & Wendy has also been confirmed, as well. The film boasts star-studded stars, including Fantastic Beasts' Jude Law as Captain Hook, Grown-ish's Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell, The Reluctant Landlord's Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, and Black Widow's Ever Anderson as Wendy.

In addition, Rogue One's Alan Tudyk and House of Cards' Molly Parker are set to play Mr. and Mrs. Darling, respectively. The right-hand man of Captain Hook, Smee, will be portrayed by comedian Jim Gaffigan. Wendy's brothers are played by Joshua Pickering as John and Jacobi Jupe as Michael.

As for the plot of Peter Pan & Wendy, the story follows the timeless tale of a young girl, Wendy, who was forced to attend boarding school. However, she defied her parents' wishes and traveled with her two younger brothers to Neverland.

After arriving in the magical place, Wendy meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Along the way, she was introduced to a tiny Fairy named Tinkerbell and an evil pirate known as Captain Hook. Eventually, Peter and Wendy go on thrilling adventures together -- far from their family and home.

Peter Pan & Wendy is slated for a 2022 release and will debut exclusively on Disney+.
