Evil Dead 4 will, reportedly, begin filming this 2021. This news first emerged from Bruce Campbell, who plays the iconic character of Ash Williams in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy. Here is what viewers can expect in the upcoming movie.

At the moment, details about Evil Dead 4 remain scarce. The first movie starring Campbell was released back in 1981, which served as a feature-debut for Raimi. The story follows a group of teenagers going on a vacation in a remote cabin.

The teens ended up summoning ancient demons, known as Deadites, that can possess the living. The second film Evil Dead 2 was released in 1987, followed by the third one Army of Darkness in 1992. A television series, Ash vs. Evil Dead, was also released in 2015 and ran for 3 seasons on Starz.

Evil Dead 4 has been planned following the release of the third film. Yet, there hasn't been a lot of updates for the past years -- though a remake of the original movie was released in 2013. However, Campbell's Ash wasn't the protagonist in the story.

The remake is directed by Raimi and Fede Alvarez. Reportedly, they intended to crossover the characters in the 2013 film to a future sequel about Ash. The follow-up never happened, but the talks about it emerged again when Campbell revealed in 2020 that Evil Dead 4 is in the work.

The title of the upcoming movie will be Evil Dead Rise, but Ash won't be appearing in the story. Instead, Campbell will serve as an executive producer for the fourth installment. He also revealed to Knox News that they're scheduled to begin filming in late 2021 and he is traveling to New Zealand for the shoot.

As for the plot of the upcoming movie, Campbell didn't share a lot of details on who the story will go. Yet, he teased that it will be set out of the woods, which coincides with his previous statement that filming would take place in an urban setting.

The new movie will be different from the preceding ones since Ash won't be a protagonist. This time, the lead character is a heroine, who will do her best to save her family from the Deadites invasion. Raimi won't direct the movie, but he picked Lee Cronin as the director.

Meanwhile, some fans were worried the Evil Dead 4 will be delayed as the production might be impacted by the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. But then, the film may not encounter a lot of setbacks since production takes place in New Zealand, one of the countries that have the lowest cases in the world.
