The first trailer of Star Trek: Discovery season 4 has been unveiled, teasing new threats for the titular ship and more dangers coming for the characters. The upcoming installment of sci-fi drama picks up what transpired in the third outing.

Star Trek: Discovery season 4 will continue to see Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her crew living in the 32nd century, an era that hasn't been explored in the Star Trek franchise. The group has to live with a world without the Federation and must find the truth about the cataclysmic event, The Burn.

It can be recalled that the Discovery crew tried to rebuild what was left in the galaxy after being hit by The Burn. All of them will attempt to fix everything even though they know that it wouldn't be easy. The damage caused by the cataclysmic event was huge and seemed to be irreparable.

The third season has just concluded in January 2021 and the good news is that work is already underway for the next outing. Instead of delivering a major cliffhanger, the previous installment ended with a positive development -- with Burnham now the USS Discovery's captain.

But then, that only means she has to prepare herself for the new threats ahead. During the First Contact Day event, the first trailer of Star Trek: Discovery season 4 was released. The clip shows that everyone must deal with the devastating gravitational anomaly.

Previously, showrunner Alex Kurtzman teased that the villain in the fourth installment won't be a "living entity" and it'll be something different. Now, the trailer reveals that it is a force stretching "five light-years across". The anomaly can cause massive destruction, leaving most of the characters in danger.

Yet, Burnham and her crew won't back down and will try to combat this force by working with others outside of the titular ship. Since the Federation is seemingly building itself back, Star Trek: Discovery season 4 could see the characters banding together in facing the inexplicable catastrophe.

Meanwhile, Burnham's relationship with Cleveland "Book" Booker (David Ajala) will be further explored in the upcoming installment. Martin-Green's character unexpectedly met the latter, who is a courier after landing in the 32nd century. In the next chapter, their bond will be tested in many ways.

Star Trek: Discovery season 4 is scheduled to be released at some point in 2021 on Paramount+, formerly known as CBS All Access.
