Supergirl season 6 episode 5 won't entirely focus on the present-day timeline of the superhero drama as Brainy (Jesse Rath) and Nia (Nicole Maines) dive back into the past. Next week's episode is titled "Prom Night", and it will see the origin story for certain characters -- particularly Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart).

In Supergirl season 6 episode 5, Nia and Brainy will try to save and get Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) out from the Phantom Zone. In order to make their plan happen, they traveled back in time to the titular character's home in 2009.

Nia and Brainy are determined to secure the item they needed to help Kara. However, the latter is worried they won't be able to keep a low profile as one wrong move could alter the future timeline. Everything gets more complicated when a young Kara (Izabela Vidovic) is the first on the scene upon their arrival.

The flashback in Supergirl season 6 episode 5 will, then, introduce the young Cat Grant (Eliza Helm). At the time, she is a young reporter who sets her sight in Midvale as she believes that the small town is hiding some big secrets.

Ahead of the official release of the sixth and final installment, it has been revealed that the superhero drama dives back into the past -- specifically exploring Cat's back story. The character's younger version will be featured in episodes 5 and 6, which comes with the title "Prom Again."

The two-part episodes focus on her early days in journalism and before she founded CatCo. Cat used to be a gossip columnist at the Daily Planet. After learning that the titular character and Superman were cousins, she puts Kara's life in grave danger.

In Supergirl season 6 episode 5, the young Cat will be introduced when she was still called "CJ Grant." During those times, she is determined to climb to the top and make a name on her own. To achieve her dream, she chased a story to Kara's hometown of Midvale.

Meanwhile, the series is diving more into the past since the sixth installment is going to be the final one. Moreover, the drama tried to accommodate Benoist and her maternity leave, and exploring the past is a creative decision in the story.

Supergirl season 6 episode 5 airs on Tuesday night, April 27, on The CW. The episode is directed by Alexandra LaRoche and written by Jess Kardos and Rob Wright.
