When Calls the Heart season 9 has been officially renewed at Hallmark Channel. The hit family drama aired its season 8 finale last weekend and the renewal was announced shortly after that. Hence, there is no need to worry about its future as the series is coming back to deliver more episodes.
On Sunday, May 9, lead star Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth, confirmed in a video that When Calls the Heart season 9 is happening. Other cast members also expressed their gratitude for the renewal of the series, which will bring new adventures for the people in Hope Valley.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Krakow said she is "feeling very happy and very proud" of what they've built over the past years. She added that she's very grateful every day that she goes to work as she could do the things she loves with the people she loves.
Chris McNally, who plays Lucas, said that they're lucky with the cast and crew since they all get along really well. He also noted that he's thrilled to work with them again to tell more stories in Hope Valley and what's going to happen next for most of the characters.
Kevin McGarry, who plays Nathan, agreed that there are "lots of stories to tell" in When Calls the Heart season 9. He teased that the season 8 finale opened up "multiple stories" and the series is taking some of the characters in an "exciting new direction."
In the season 8 finale, Elizabeth made up her mind and realized where her heart belongs to. She finally removed her wedding ring -- and in a shocking twist, she chose businessman, Lucas. Many were shocked with her decision, especially since there have been clues that she'll choose Mountie, Nathan.
Now, Krakow and McNally said they're "intrigued" of where the new relationship of their characters will go in the next installment. The latter said he is looking forward to exploring the romance of Elizabeth and Lucas since they came up with a mutual decision now.
McNally admitted that he has no idea what's in store for them in When Calls the Heart season 9 because he hasn't talked to showrunner John Tinker at the moment. But, when it comes to personal storylines, the actor said it would be interesting to see Lucas facing some troubles in his business.
Meanwhile, Krakow said the next installment may see Lucas wearing something casual, which most fans have been requesting to see. The character often wears formal attire, considering the nature of his work. Yet, in the next installment, there is a possibility he'll be dressing a bit differently than usual.
