Melinda Gates had her Roman Catholic faith tested in her divorce from Bill Gates. Bill Gates has told friends his marriage was "loveless."

'Separate Lives' For Some Time

An unidentified source reportedly told The New York Post that Bill Gates told his golfing buddies his marriage was "loveless" and it "had been over for some time and they lived separate lives."

Representatives for both Bill and Melinda Gates haven't responded.

Melinda Gates reportedly had a hard time making the divorce decision because of her Roman Catholic faith where divorce is disdained and considered a "grave offense against the natural law."

Another source who has worked with Melinda Gates told the Post she was looking to "get an annulment from the Vatican" once the civil divorce proceedings were complete.

Melinda Gates Didn't Get the Recognition She Deserved

The couple have been together for 27 years and surprised many with news of their divorce. However, many of their friends knew it was coming.

A source told People that Bill Gates "could have treated Melinda better."

The source said the couple had different views on life and they "grew apart" for several reasons such as Melinda's strong desire to tackle women's issues and Bill's focus on business.

According to the insider, there should have been "better balance" between the recognition that Melinda Gates received for her efforts and Bill Gate's acknowledgement of his not giving Melinda enough chance "to let her speak."

Biographer Unravels Bill's Bachelor Days

Bill Gate's biographer, James Wallace, who wrote two books about the billionaire, spoke to The Daily Mail earlier this week, revealing some of Bill's alleged wild bachelor days.

According to Wallace, Bill Gates and his friends would hold "some pretty wild parties" and later spend time with strippers in Bill Gate's Seattle house.

Wallace, who is a former Post-Intelligencer reporter, also wrote in his 1997 book Overdrive: Bill Gates and the Race to Control Cyberspace, how Bill continued to "play field for a while" even after he started dating Melinda.

The 74-year-old former journalist said Bill Gate's "womanizing was well known" but it was underreported. Wallace also said Gates and his computer company "spoon-fed stories" to writers.

Wallace wrote Melinda Gates knew of Bill Gates' activities. It was only in 1992, when the couple got back together after a breakup of nearly a year that their relationship improved.

Former Microsoft executive and a longtime friend of Bill, Vern Raburn, attested to his friend's faithfulness to Melinda Gates once the couple tied the knot.
