Kate Middleton has become the first British Royal to receive some of Prince Harry's royal patronages following his and Meghan Markle's exit. Express UK reported that Queen Elizabeth II has already appointed the Duchess of Cambridge as the new royal patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and the Rugby Football League (RFL).

In publicizing the latest move within the British Monarchy, Kensington Palace released a clip, showing the future Queen Consort passing a rugby ball to England players. The material was posted on social media, and it came with a message from Kate Middleton, saying she is "thrilled" to become the new patron of both patronages.

The Cambridge Royal's office, later on, shared a statement regarding the matter. It said that these "closely align" with Prince William's wife's passion for sports.

The publication noted that Kate Middleton is the first, and not Camilla Parker-Bowles, to receive some of the roles Prince Harry and Meghan Markle previously held. As explained, the speculations that the latter would replace the Duchess of Sussex as the new patron of the National Theater have yet to be confirmed.

Over the weekend, sources told The Sunday Times that the Duchess of Cornwall has long-wanted the royal patronage. She was reportedly "pretty miffed" when the former actress received the position in 2019, according to MailOnline.

But, now that she is set to become its new patron, she is said to be "delighted" to take over from Prince Harry's wife.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to step down from their positions in the British Monarchy earlier in 2020. The pair announced that they wanted to become financially independent individuals, while "continuing to fully support" and "honor" their duties to Queen Elizabeth II.

Despite expressing their desire to continue on with their duties, they ended up "returning" their honorary military appointments and royal patronages to the British Monarch. It was announced at the time that these titles and positions would be "redistributed" to the rest of the senior working royals, which include Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Following the series of events, the Duke of Sussex lost his military roles and titles, including Captain-General Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commandant (RAF Honington), and Commodore-in-Chief (Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command).

As for the Duchess of Sussex, she lost her position as the royal patron of The Queen's Commonwealth Trust, Smart Works, Mayhew, Association of Commonwealth Universities, and Royal National Theater.
