SEVENTEEN's The8 has a sweet treat for fans. He is about to drop a new solo digital single, "海城 (Hai Cheng)," three years after his solo debut.
Along with the announcement is the release of The8's new single's poster. Though the image features a blurry hand, it looks like the future is bright for the Seventeen member.
As obtained by AllKpop, the poster shows a clear sky with a half-moon and faint clouds. A hand is trying to reach the moon, making the image so dramatic.
It also reveals when fans are about to hear Xu Minghao's new music, which will be on Friday, March 18.
For starters, The8 debuted as a part of the 13-member boy group SEVENTEEN. He is a Chinese singer, songwriter and dancer based in South Korea.
The group's debut album, "17 Carat," became the longest-charting K-pop album of the year in the U.S. Later, as a part of the group's "Performance Team" sub-unit, he officially made his solo debut in 2019 with the song, "Dreams Come True."
With that said, he has inspired a legion of fans and created a fandom in India. So, one fan wrote a letter, via Pink Villa, as part of its Dear Oppa series.
The letter sender Ahana Gupta revealed she got into K-pop when the world stood still in 2020. She started to know The8 when her friends introduced her to SEVENTEEN and within just a week, she felt she was a CARAT who had listened to their entire discography.
So when the second wave of COVID hit India in 2021, she, along with a lot of people, stayed at home again and saw the future as hopeless. At the time, The8 released "Side By Side" that she saw as a blessing.
Ahana had been waiting for his solo project since he became a CARAT and she was thankful he gave it. She continued to play the song until it became her most played track on Spotify.
In fact, it had also been her ringtone since April 2021. Amid the threat that the pandemic brought, the song made her happy that she danced to it all day and night.
The8 even managed to steal her heart through his music. Aside from his musical and dance talent, she also watched "Going Seventeen" to see his savage and funny comments that always made her laugh.
She loved how The8 mimicked Hoshi Hoshi on the video of SEVENTEEN's fifth anniversary, as it also made her happy. With that said, she hoped to meet him one day.
