BTS's V made another record in Spotify history. Also known as Kim Taehyung, he now has over 7 million followers on the music streaming site.
Although V only has three original soundtracks under his profile, he manages to surpass the 7 million mark. So, does this mean he is about to release his solo mixtape soon?
AllKpop noted that the 26-year-old idol is now the fourth most-followed K-pop soloist and the ninth most-followed K-pop artist. He, too, is the only Korean soloist who manages to join the top five without officially dropping a solo debut or mixtape.
The three songs on his list are "Christmas Tree," "It's Definitely You" and "Sweet Night." The first song is from the K-drama series "Our Beloved Summer" official soundtrack, which quickly broke domestic and international records upon release.
Anyhow, V is reportedly getting ready for his much-awaited solo debut. In March, he revealed his solo mixtape would be out anytime this year, per Billboard.
The singer-songwriter went live on WeVerse back then and answered some questions about the anticipated release of his solo music. He told fans he would "release it within this year," though he didn't give any release window.
V has been teasing the coming of his solo music. But as nothing has come to fruition yet, he just dropped "Christmas Tree" to celebrate the holidays.
This helped him top the Emerging Artists chart and had his spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and Holiday 100 charts at No. 79 and No. 55, respectively, in January.
Fans also asked V if he would include some previously released songs on his upcoming solo album. Sadly, he revealed he had already deleted those tracks.
"All the songs I uploaded are not going on the mixtape; I deleted them after uploading it," he said. As the ARMYs started to get upset, he apologized and added he didn't "even remember."
It wasn't the first time that V talked about his plan to release his solo music. In an interview with Rolling Stone in May 2021, he said he initially wanted to drop his solo project by the end of 2021.
Sadly, he didn't have the chance to work on it, although he badly wanted to do it due to his songwriting and production commitment to BTS. Things became even harder and more complex than V thought they would be that he didn't manage to release his solo mixtape early.
