A shooting occurred at a Copenhagen mall on Monday that left three people dead and numerous others injured, including three who are in serious condition, police said.

The names of the victims have not been disclosed. Sunday night, police did not announce the precise number of injured, but stated that three were in critical stages.

The suspect, a 22-year-old Danish man, was taken into custody following the shooting at the Fields shopping mall, police inspector Sren Thomassen said.

The suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, was detained with a firearm and ammo. According to Thomassen, he has no criminal history. "We are certain that the apprehended man is the mall shooter," he said.

The police did not confirm or comment on the attacker's motive.

Police in Copenhagen got an emergency call at 5:37 p.m. local time, and the suspect was apprehended at 5:48 p.m., officials said.

In a tweet sent at 6:30 p.m., police stated that "significant numbers" of officers were present at the Fields shopping mall, where they had received reports of gunfire.

About 15 minutes later, police tweeted that "many individuals" had been shot and advised those inside the mall to wait for authorities while advising those not on the scene to avoid the mall.

A social media video appeared to show people running and yelling inside the mall as gunshots were heard. As they awaited word, witnesses reported that individuals inside the mall were crying and hiding in stores.

The police asked mall-goers to call their family members.

A substantial police presence was scheduled to stay at Fields throughout the night, hours after the shooting.

The shopping center is close to the Royal Arena, where Harry Styles was due to perform Sunday night. The performance was ultimately canceled at the request of the Danish authorities, according to the entertainment organization Live Nation.

Styles tweeted, "I am devastated for the victims, their families, and everyone suffering.  I'm sad that we could not be together. Please look out for one another."

In a statement, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed her condolences to those affected by the tragedy and urged Danish citizens to stand united.

She stated, "Denmark was the target of a vicious attack on Sunday night. We have all been abruptly ripped from the beginning of a brilliant summer. It is beyond comprehension. Heartbreaking. Pointless."
