It has been three years since fans have been waiting for the coming of the "Alita: Battle Angel" sequel. Fortunately, one of the film's producers has finally given an update about the possibility of doing the second movie.

"Alita: Battle Angel" is originally a manga series by Yukito Kishiro, published in Shueisha's Business Jump magazine from 1990 to 1995 titled "Battle Angel Alita." Its live-action movie adaptation was a success, leading to fans awaiting the "Alita: Battle Angel" sequel until one of its producers and screenwriters, James Cameron, signed to produce other projects, like "Avatar: The Way of Water."

With the number of years that fans have waited to see the movie's second iteration, fans can't help but wonder if a sequel will still come. Thankfully, the film's producer, Jon Landau, revealed the team "would love" to discuss the possible second film.

In an interview with Deadline at the red-carpet premiere of "Avatar: The Way of Water," Landau revealed they would love to "circle back and do a sequel" to the cyberpunk sci-fi action movie. In fact, he had been talking to the first movie director Robert Rodriguez about it, and he was hoping it would come to fruition.

So, when can fans see the "Alita: Battle Angel" sequel? Landau explained that if he gave it a timeline, it would be something that he would "poke fun at for later."

ScreenRant explained that seeing the second movie might take a while after it was released amid Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, putting it in an odd spot. Disney wasn't involved in the film's development, though it was one of Fox's movies that performed well when the merger occurred.

Disney has always shown interest in creating and continuing successful franchises, but doing the "Alita: Battle Angel" sequel seems to be not part of the priority. Why? It may be due to the hectic schedule of the movie's main creatives, like Cameron.

The legendary filmmaker is giving his full attention to the "Avatar" franchise, with "Avatar: The Way of Water" coming and its subsequent sequels developing. Rodriguez, too, is busy doing something else, like working on several films for Netflix and rebooting the "Spy Kid" franchise.

With their busy schedules, no one will look after the development of the "Alita: Battle Angel" sequel. So though there may be plans to do it, it may take years before it finally happens.
