On Sunday, First Lady Jill Biden dismissed the idea proposed by Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley to mandate mental competency tests for lawmakers over the age of 75. Mrs. Biden implied that President Joe Biden would never agree to such a test and that she and her husband would not entertain such a topic.

In a recent interview, First Lady Jill Biden criticized Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley's proposal to impose mental competency tests for lawmakers over the age of 75, including her husband, President Joe Biden. Mrs. Biden referred to the idea as "ridiculous" and stated that she and her husband would never submit to such a test.

Haley had proposed competency tests for older politicians, specifically referring to Biden and former President Donald Trump, who is also in his 70s, as part of her 2024 Republican nomination campaign. However, Mrs. Biden pointed out that her husband had recently traveled to Ukraine to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky, demonstrating his resilience and capability to lead despite his age.

"We cannot win the struggle for the 21st century if we continue to rely on politicians from the 20th century," said the former governor of South Carolina.

Biden Intends to Run in 2024 Election

Despite facing criticism and accusations from Republicans about his age, President Biden has declared his intention to run in the 2024 election. However, he has highlighted his family or an unexpected occurrence, such as a health crisis, as possible deterrents to his candidacy.

Mrs. Biden, who is said to be her husband's closest confidante in the White House, expressed her support for his potential candidacy in the upcoming election. Meanwhile, other politicians, including independent Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, have criticized Haley's proposal as "absurd" and "ageist," pointing out that the age limit she proposed is below the age of the leading Republican contender, Donald Trump.
