In a recent turn of events, EXO's D.O. has been fined by the Mapo District Health Center for violating a smoking ban under the National Health Enhancement Act. The incident came to light after a video surfaced online, showing the idol allegedly using an e-cigarette in the waiting room before their performance on MBC's "Show! Music Core."

The video, which was part of EXO's behind-the-scenes content on their YouTube channel, sparked controversy and was quickly edited after fans raised suspicions about D.O.'s actions. This editing further fueled public speculation.

On September 6, it was revealed that a concerned citizen had filed a complaint against D.O. in August, accusing him of smoking inside the MBC headquarters, a designated smoke-free area. The Mapo District Health Center subsequently confirmed the violation and imposed a fine on the singer.

SM Entertainment, the agency representing EXO, maintained that D.O. was using a nicotine-free e-cigarette. However, the product's ingredient list and instructions suggested the possibility of it containing nicotine. As a result, the fine was imposed on D.O., who has since pledged to comply with the law in the future.

In an official statement from the Mapo District Health Center, they clarified, "The parties (involved) and their company explained that they used a nicotine-free e-cigarette, but a fine was imposed because it could not be proved to be nicotine-free based on the ingredient list and instructions of the product." The statement further emphasized the importance of public figures adhering to regulations and set a precedent for others.

Despite the controversy, D.O. has announced his return to the music scene with his second mini-album, "Anticipation." This album marks his first release in two years, following his debut mini-album "Empathy" in July 2021. "Anticipation" will feature seven tracks, including the pre-release song "I Do," set to be unveiled on September 8. The title track, "Somebody," will be released on September 18, alongside the album.

The incident serves as a reminder of the responsibilities and scrutiny public figures face, especially in the age of social media where every action is under the microscope. It also underscores the importance of adhering to public health regulations, not just for celebrities but for everyone.
