K-pop group BTS has once again clinched the 'Worldwide Icon of the Year' at the 'MAMA Awards,' marking their sixth win in this category. Overall, this victory marks BTS's 8th consecutive grand prize win at the 'MAMA Awards.'
The first day of the '2023 MAMA Awards' ceremony was held at the Tokyo Dome on November 28. Singer Jeon Somi hosted the event, impressively managing the show in both Korean and English.
In the 'Worldwide Fans' Choice' category, determined entirely by fan votes, Tomorrow X Together (TXT), BTS, Zero Base One, ENHYPEN, Lim Young-woong, ATEEZ, NCT DREAM, Stray Kids, and SEVENTEEN were all honored.
The prestigious 'Worldwide Icon of the Year' went to BTS. Unable to attend due to military service, Jungkook represented the group via video message.
Jungkook expressed, "We have become the 'Worldwide Icon of the Year' for the sixth time. Thank you for your unwavering love." He added, "Although we can't be together today, we will be reunited as something greater. Until then, I hope everyone stays healthy and happy."
In the 'Favorite New Artist' category, akin to a rookie award, Rise and Zero Base One received honors. Rise stated, "We are deeply grateful to our Breezes (fan club) for making us what we are. We will strive to show even better performances in the future." Zero Base One said, "It's a great honor to receive such a bright award on a stage we've always dreamed of. We're thankful to the Vice President of CJ ENM and President of Wake One, and our fans, the Zeroes. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement coming soon."
