BTS's Jungkook has set a new record for the longest-running K-Pop solo album in Spotify's global chart with his first solo album 'GOLDEN'. The album clinched the 4th spot on Spotify's Weekly Top Album Global Chart for the week of December 29th to January 4th. Rising three spots from the previous week, 'GOLDEN' has impressively maintained its top-tier position.
Marking a new milestone, 'GOLDEN' has been ranked on the chart for nine consecutive weeks, outperforming global superstars like Taylor Swift and The Weeknd. Its debut at 2nd place and continued presence in the top 10 for nine weeks underscore its enduring popularity and robust commercial success, not just as a fleeting hit but a testament to its broad appeal.
On Spotify, 'GOLDEN' garnered an astonishing 214.69 million streams (pre-filtering) in its first week, setting the record for the highest weekly streaming for a debut album by an Asian solo artist and ranking second in weekly streams among all Asian artists. Recently, it became the first and only K-Pop solo album to surpass 2.3 billion streams (pre-filtering).
In addition to its streaming success, 'GOLDEN' ranked 28th on Billboard's 'Billboard 200' chart for January 13th, marking its ninth consecutive week on the chart. This further establishes 'GOLDEN' as the longest-charting album by a K-Pop solo artist in the 'Billboard 200'. The album also garnered critical acclaim, being selected for prestigious lists such as Rolling Stone's 'Best Music of 2023: Staff Picks', MTV's 'Record-Breaking Albums of 2023', The New York Times' 'Best Albums of 2023', and UPROXX's 'The Best Albums Of 2023'.
In its first week of release in the US, 'GOLDEN' achieved the highest unit sales for a K-Pop solo artist, surpassing 200,000 units and becoming the first K-Pop solo album in 2023 to exceed 500,000 units.
Lastly, 'GOLDEN' topped the Circle Chart's '2023 Cumulative Album (Physical) Sales Top 15', with over 2.7 million copies sold, making it the highest-selling album of 2023 across all K-Pop solo artists, male and female.
