In a surprising incident at Munich Airport, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the renowned actor and former governor of California, was detained over an undeclared luxury watch. Schwarzenegger, known globally for his roles in blockbuster films and his stint as the 38th Governor of California, found himself in an unexpected situation that lasted over three hours at the German airport on Wednesday.

According to the European Union's regulations, individuals carrying cash or valuable items exceeding €10,000 (approximately £8,580) into the EU must declare them upon arrival. Schwarzenegger's failure to declare the watch, which he intended to auction for charity, led to his detention.

A spokesperson for Munich's customs office clarified the situation to RTL, stating, "He did not declare a product. A product that was imported from non-EU countries in order to remain in the EU. And this process applies to everyone." The incident has highlighted the stringent customs regulations that apply to all travelers, regardless of their celebrity status.

The luxury watch, reported by some to be custom-made by Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet, was intended for a charity auction in Kitzbühel, Austria. Schwarzenegger was set to host the event, with proceeds aimed at supporting the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative. Despite the hold-up at the airport, the actor's team assured that the watch would still be auctioned, and all necessary procedures would be followed.

Schwarzenegger's calm demeanor during the incident was noted by his spokesperson, who told German publication Bild, "He took the incident calmly." An image of Schwarzenegger smiling while holding the watch box has since circulated on social media, indicating his composed response to the situation.

However, the episode has resulted in criminal tax proceedings against Schwarzenegger by German authorities. "This will then be processed by our criminal and fines office. It's too early to say what the outcome will be. There are many factors that have to be taken into account. It will still take some time," explained Meister, a representative of the customs office.

Known as "The Governator," Schwarzenegger has had a multifaceted career, transitioning from a professional bodybuilder to an actor and then to a politician. Despite his political role, he has often expressed a disinterest in politics, preferring to view himself as a public servant.

The incident at Munich Airport, while minor, underscores the importance of adhering to international customs regulations. It also highlights Schwarzenegger's ongoing commitment to philanthropy, with his latest efforts aimed at combating climate change.
