In a troubling incident emerging from Minnesota, Ann Margaret Bacon, a 24-year-old special education teacher, has been charged with engaging in a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student from Tartan High School in Oakdale, where she was employed.
The charges, filed in Ramsey County District Court, include one count of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct under allegations of a prohibited occupational relationship. This development led to Bacon's resignation from her position, coinciding with the day of her police interview.
The case came to light after administration at Tartan High School and a school resource officer were alerted on February 6th to Bacon's inappropriate relationship with the student, identified only as Victim 1 in the criminal complaint. Further allegations surfaced that Bacon had provided alcohol to minors, compounding the gravity of the situation.
Despite initial denials, Bacon's admission to the sexual relationship was compelled by photographic evidence of her and the student at a Vadnais Heights hotel dated May 8, predating the student's graduation.

Witness accounts have played a pivotal role in unraveling the details of this case. A former girlfriend of the victim, referred to as Witness B, disclosed to authorities that she had observed secretive behavior and increased interaction between Bacon and the victim leading up to his graduation. She also raised concerns about Bacon's conduct with minors, including providing alcohol and consuming marijuana. Explicit messages and photographs on the victim's phone, corroborated by hotel records, substantiated the claims of their illicit encounters.
The victim, during police interviews, admitted to sexual encounters with Bacon, stating their first occurred in July 2023 in her car. He denied any physical relationship prior to his graduation but confirmed they were currently dating and he had been staying at her apartment. Hotel records obtained by the police revealed multiple instances where Bacon rented rooms, which she admitted were for the purpose of engaging in sexual activities with the student, especially since she was living with her parents at the time.
Bacon's acknowledgment of the commencement of the sexual relationship while the student was still under her tutelage, coupled with her confession of receiving a payment labeled "liqq" through Venmo, has added layers to the investigation. Despite the termination of their sexual relationship in July, Bacon disclosed that they reconnected in November, though she now describes their current status as "just friends."
This case has stirred significant concern within the community and the education sector, highlighting critical issues surrounding teacher-student relationships and the safeguarding of students within educational institutions. As the legal proceedings unfold, the focus remains on ensuring accountability and the implementation of measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
