Jennifer Lopez was certain that her second shot at love with Ben Affleck would result in a happily ever after, but that was three years before the couple was surrounded by rumors of a divorce.
In 2021, Jennifer, who is 54 years old, and Ben, who is 51 years old, got back together. This was over twenty years after they broke up their engagement and canceled their wedding in 2003.
The “Let’s Get Loud” hitmaker rekindled her relationship with the actor from "Batman" just a few weeks after she ended her relationship with her ex-fiance, Alex Rodriguez. In July 2022, they went on an elopement in Las Vegas, and a month later, they once again exchanged their vows in front of their family and friends.
Jennifer was featured in the edition of Rolling Stone magazine that was published in March 2022, some months before they tied the knot. When the “Papi” songstress was asked about the likelihood of her and Affleck breaking up, she responded that she did not see them ever breaking up again, and that if they did, they would not renew their romance.
"I don't think we would have got back together if we thought that was where it was headed. We feel like what we found again is so much more important, and how we protect that and how we live our lives—what to share, what not to share—is the balance that we have now, the benefit of experience and the wisdom that we gained over the years,” Jennifer told the entertainment news outlet.
When Jennifer talked about how much they had changed and how they were ready to take on their second opportunity at "real love" after being apart for nearly twenty years, it seemed as though she was echoing the same idea.
"What I can teach my children is that real love exists. Some things can be forever, but it doesn't mean they just have a straight line,” Jennifer told PEOPLE.
On the other hand, the “On the Floor” singer admitted that the media was able to easily trample on their love because they had disclosed it. On the other hand, Jennifer and Ben have matured and tend to be more guarded about their relationship.
"We both were like, 'Wow, we're so happy and we don't want any of that to come into play again.' We're older now, we're smarter, we have more experience, we're at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things. We're so protective because it is such a beautiful time for all of us," Jennifer added.
One other possibility is that the singer of "I'm Into You" has already changed her mind about whether or not she would continue to conceal the fact that she is in a relationship with Ben. Jennifer launched the documentary titled "The Greatest Love Story Never Told" earlier this year from her own production company. The documentary is about the romantic life that she and Ben have shared together.
Jennifer was cautioned against doing so by her closest friends. Her friend Jane Fonda, with whom she had a co-starring role in the film "Monster-In-Law," expressed her support for them, but she also stated that the documentary "feels like too much," as if the singer of "All I Have" was "trying to prove something instead of just living it."
Additionally, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas expressed the same issue when Jennifer made the decision to invest twenty million dollars of her own money in the project following the decision of a potential partner to withdraw from the endeavor.
"'What are you doing?' I was worried. 'Why are you sharing your story? It's too personal. Stop it.' It made me uncomfortable for her," Elaine stated.
Ben, on the other hand, seems to have been hesitant about her choice. When he noticed Lopez spreading his love letters for her with other people, he even given the impression of being surprised.
"I did really find the beauty and the poetry and the irony in the fact that it's the greatest love story never told. If you're making a record about it, that seems kind of like telling it," the “Air” actor stated.
Jennifer and Ben have been the subject of rumors regarding their divorce for a number of months. Putting their marital home, which was valued at sixty million dollars, up for sale and living in different residences contributed to the rumors that circulated about their relationship.
On the other hand, Jennifer and Ben continue to be seen together on occasion, and they have not directly addressed the question of whether or not they are married.
