A lawsuit that is likely to be filed is the least of Miley Cyrus's concerns; however, the fact that she has admitted to creating a song about her ex is.
Following the filing of a lawsuit against her for copyright infringement, Miley, who is 31 years old, reportedly expressed concern that she would be required to "publicly reveal" that her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth was the "inspiration" behind her 2023 single which was titled “Flowers.”
According to a report that was published by TMZ earlier this week, Miley has been accused of copying Bruno Mars' hit song "When I Was Your Man" from 2012, which topped the music charts all over the world. Tempo Music Investments has filed a lawsuit against the Disney alum.
According to the firm, which asserts that it is the proprietor of Bruno's song, similarities such as the chorus, harmony, melody, chord progressions, and lyrics were "intentionally" duplicated. Additionally, the company stated that “Flowers” would not exist without “When I Was Your Man.”
The former “Hannah Montana” star, however, is reportedly "not too concerned" about the lawsuit itself, but rather the "unsettling" prospect of potentially having to admit that the song was about her ex-boyfriend. This comes after fans assumed that the song was a reaction to the rumors that he had been unfaithful to her.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, an unnamed source claimed that while Miley isn't entirely worried about the legal side of the “Flowers” saga, "everyone who knows Miley knows that this track was written as a way of healing from Liam."
"She wrote lyrics that were a reaction to Bruno’s lyrics in Your Man, specifically because that was Liam’s song to her. She only cared that he knew it was for him,” the anonymous insider further told the news outlet.
The thought of having to admit this "publicly and on record is very unsettling" for the “Party in the USA” singer. "Miley originally wrote it as a slow love ballad, not the fast upbeat song that it became," the undisclosed informant added.
It was in May of 2012 when the singer of "Butterfly Fly Away" became engaged to the Hollywood heartthrob. However, they broke up in September of 2013, and they did not get back together until 2016. After that, they got married in December of 2018, but they divorced in January of the following year.
Back in 2013, it was believed that Liam had dedicated Bruno's song to Miley, and it is also said that he frequently referred to it during the entirety of their relationship. It was then suggested that the actor, who was born in Australia, had also requested that the song be played during the wedding of the couple.
Business Times has reached out to Miley Cyrus, who has yet to publicly address the lawsuit, for comments.
