Trump Criticized for Using Attacks to Push Border Narrative
On Friday morning, the co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program, Jonathan Lemire, did not hold back when he called out Donald Trump for his failure to retract his complaints about the administration of President Joe Biden regarding national security. He did this by employing the attacks in New Orleans and the Tesla explosion in Las Vegas as examples of the policies that the country has in place regarding its border policies.
After the two occurrences, the president-elect expressed his anger on Truth Social by posting a series of messages in which he claimed that the incidents were related to undocumented immigrants and that Democrats, the FBI, and the Department of Justice were responsible for them.
Critics Highlight False Claims on Border Policies
Following the reading of Trump's posts, Lemire made it abundantly evident that both of the offenders were American citizens who had also served in the United States Army. Then, he attacked Trump by saying:
"Let's be clear yet again," Lemire said. "This terrorist suspect was born in Texas, U.S. citizen, served in the Army, seems to have nothing to do with the border, but yet the fear-mongering here from Trump and his fellow Republicans, including the man who in a few hours wants to retain his post as House Speaker, goes on unabated and, frankly, strikes me as dangerous."
He started by saying that the president-elect had not tried to fix the record. Then he said, "I mean, it is a lie, and it's also the latest in a pattern of Donald Trump being unable to make a mistake. You know, in the hours after the attack, there was erroneous reporting elsewhere that suggested that this attack may have had something to do with the border. He seized on that, made that the narrative."
Lemire Warns of Dangerous Rhetoric Impacting National Security
Per The Raw Story, he said that the reporting had to be withdrawn, that officials had cleaned it up, and that we are aware that it has nothing to do with it; nonetheless, he is unable to let it go. Lemire stated he is endeavoring to utilize it for his political motives, irrespective of the repercussions, despite the potential hindrance to the investigation and the likelihood of endangering others due to his imprudent remarks.
When it comes to matters of national security, this man is set to become president once more, and he is dealing with brazen lies. He also emphasized how perilous it is.
