When Katy Perry was talking about her experience at one of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concerts in Australia in February of last year, she was beaming with excitement.
She recounted being in Australia and making the decision to watch Taylor play during an interview that took place on Friday with the radio station Capital FM in the United Kingdom. The singer, who is known for her song "Fireworks," discussed her experience.
"I was like, 'Hey girl, I'm going to come to the show,' and she was so excited, and I was such an excited person!" While holding an iPad that displayed the selfie that she and Taylor had taken backstage, Perry made the statement.
Perry gushed over the fact that a large number of Swifties, including Rita Ora, presented her with friendship bracelets when she was at the show.
Perry shared that she loves it, describing it as a sweet and adorable community. She mentioned how she enjoyed catching up with her and expressed how much she loved her, per Page Six.
One of the first times that the singer from "Dark Horse" took a selfie with Swift on Instagram was in February of 2024. In the comment, she said, "Got to see an old friend shine tonight."
An extremely humorous video of Perry singing along to the song "Bad Blood," which is reportedly about their earlier rivalry, was also included in the carousel. Perry's face was somewhat astonished as she sang along to the song.
There have been rumors going around for a very long time that the two music icons have a poor relationship. The two were close friends at one point in time. Cosmopolitan reported rumors of Taylor and Perry's close friendship between 2009 and 2011.
They were reportedly tweeting praises to each other, attending each other's birthday parties, and engaging in other activities. During this period, rumors circulated that both of them engaged in romantic liaisons with John Mayer. Surprisingly, this did not directly spark their rivalry; nevertheless, it does demonstrate how intertwined they were with one another.
According to Glamour, the conflict began when three of Perry's backup dancers from her "California Dreams" tour joined Swift's "Red" tour but then left prematurely to join Perry on her "Prismatic" tour. This caused the feud to begin.
According to an interview that Swift gave to Rolling Stone in 2014, she almost certainly verified that this was the incident that sparked their animosity and served as the inspiration for the song "Bad Blood." She stated that the individual she was referring to in the song "basically attempted to prevent an entire arena tour from taking place." She attempted to hire a large number of individuals in order to get in her way.
The two often made subtle digs at one another in their works and in the media during this almost decade-long feud. Perry's appearance as a burger in her old friend's "You Need to Calm Down" music video ended it in 2019.
Swift, costumed as a French fry, danced with them. Perry uploaded a photo of them dressed up on Instagram with the remark, "This meal is BEEF-free."
Perry's IG comments are full of fans praising the reunion and the inclusion of "Bad Blood" in the set list, calling it "iconic."
