The controversy unfolded at the closing event of Rosé's official pop-up store, which was designed to showcase licensed merchandise, themed photo zones and branding associated with the New Zealand-born singer. According to Malaysian entertainment outlet Hype, Chinese influencer Daisy was invited by event organizers to attend the final day of the pop-up earlier this month.
Tensions flared when the event host introduced Daisy in a way that some attendees said blurred the distinction between the influencer and the artist being promoted. Fans who were present, as well as viewers watching clips online, said the moment appeared to position Daisy as a central figure at an event intended to highlight Rosé.
Videos circulating on social media showed Daisy posing for photos with fans, signing Rosé's official merchandise and wearing outfits that closely resembled the BLACKPINK star's well-known fashion style. Critics argued that these elements, taken together, risked misleading casual observers into believing Daisy had an official or representative role connected to Rosé.
Online reaction escalated quickly across platforms including X and Weibo. Some users accused organizers of disrespecting Rosé and her fanbase, while others mocked the situation using phrases such as "Rosé but made in China," "They bootlegged Rosé," and "Not Rosé but Losé." As criticism mounted, Daisy addressed the controversy directly through her personal social media accounts. She said her appearance at the event was pre-arranged and approved by organizers. "I attended the event at the invitation of the shopping mall, and everything was carried out according to plans discussed in advance with the organisers," she stated.
Daisy also denied that her participation was financially motivated or intended to mislead fans. "I did not receive any financial compensation, and my intention was never to impersonate or replace Rosé," she said. She added that her goal had been to support promotion of Rosé and the pop-up store, not to redirect attention away from the artist.
Acknowledging fan concerns, Daisy said she understood why the situation caused discomfort.
