Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi is eyeing to overpower the mobile industry in the United States by 2019, despite struggles of other Chinese telecommunication brands to stay in the US market, the company's senior official confirmed.
While speaking to Reuters, Xiaomi's senior vice president Wang Xiang said that the U.S. market is "very attractive" in terms of smartphone business and the company is getting ready with new engineering technology and units to prepare new versions of the company's existing and new smartphones, which will be compatible for the users of the United States.
He also added: "Next year we hope we can do something there." However, he also added that Xiaomi's entrance in the U.S. also depends upon the concrete agreements with the U.S. mobile carriers, for which the company has already begun their talks.
Cnet noted that Wang's attempt to enter the U.S. markets in 2019 may lead him to take some tough calls for Xiaomi, as the majority of the Chinese handset manufacturers are having some serious nightmares with their business opportunities in the country. Recently, Huawei Technologies Co Ltd faced rapid troubles with the U.S. carriers to get handset distribution agreements.
Citing national security threats many political figures opposed Huawei's business in the country.
Another Chinese mobile maker: ZTE was officially debarred to do smartphone business in the United States after getting disruptions to buying U.S. components as punishment for its violation of trade deal with the country. It is also noted that a group of U.S. politicians is aiming to stop the entry of Chinese state-backed telecommunication tycoon: China Mobile Ltd, into the U.S.
However, Wang stated that the tension raised by these creates an "uncertainty" for Xiaomi.
But the company is confident about their attempt as it has already built strong ties with the U.S. based chipmaker Qualcomm and Google's very own Alphabet Inc.
"We don't see any reason for us to get into that political problem." Wang also quoted that Xiaomi has always been concerned with customers satisfaction and it will remain the focus of the business.
