The drama surrounding Stan Lee has earned a positive nod as the Marvel icon decided to let go of his $1 billion lawsuit against POW! Entertainment. The embattled icon claims the firm has a big part in letting him sign away his rights to his famous name.
This is the latest in a series of saddening events in the life of Marvel's famous icon. Recently, he has been allegedly purposely confused by Keya Morgan, a memorabilia collector. Variety confirms that Morgan has since been given a restraining order, banning him from contacting or coming from within 100 paces of Stan Lee.
The Law Decides Against Keya Morgan
In the case against Keya Morgan, a Los Angeles Court ruled in favor of Lee and his legal guardian, Tom Lallas, barring Morgan from any contact. It was on May 30, according to Independent UK, when Morgan was arrested after being accused of falsification-particularly of a police report. He has reported police and social workers, who had been on a routine welfare visit that time, as 'burglars.'
Morgan had stepped in after Joan Lee's death. He started to stand in as 'caregiver' for Stan Lee, whose worth is pegged at around $50 million last July.
Since then, Morgan had begun to take control of major decisions concerning Lee's estate as well as his business relations. It began in February, where he allegedly started hiring a security team and decided on important decisions on behalf of Stan Lee. This was all done without the knowledge of the Marvel icon, whom he had moved from his home to an apartment.
A POW! To The Face
Meanwhile, Lee was embroiled with POW!, a company he had a hand in forming in 2001. It was formed with the task of managing everything that Stan Lee had something to with; most of his works and intellectual property for animation, comics, film, and television were to come under their supervision. However, POW! changed hands when Camsing International and CEO Shane Duffy came along. It was during this time, Lee said through Fortune's report, that he was tricked into signing away his rights to the company.
So far, Lee has dropped the charges against POW!, moving on to focus on his pending hearing against Morgan. The hearing is said to be set on July 26.
