Critically-acclaimed film director Quentin Tarantino raised an objection in the Delaware bankruptcy court this Monday to hinder the sale of Weinstein Company to Lantern Entertainment.
According to a report, the film company still owes him a great deal of money for several of his works. This includes his hit titles like "Death Proof," "Inglorious Basters," "Django Unchained," and "The Hateful Eight."
The famed director's attempt is just but one of the many objections being filed against the reported sale. As pointed out over at Variety, big Hollywood names like Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, and Bill Murray, just to name a few, are putting up claims for their backend profit payments from various films.
The media outlet added that a deal between TWC, Lantern Capital, and the group of creditors, was actually reached last Friday. The provision gives Lantern an extension of four months to settle on a select number of contracts. The Weinstein Co. estate will then relegate any remaining contracts. By then, there will be no security for the part of Tarantino and company that their claims will be met to the letter.
"Lantern has not shown any willingness to pay, or even negotiate the claims of Counterparties, and instead appears to favor continuing litigation by the Debtors against the Counterparties at a substantial cost to the estates," Christopher Simon, legal representative for Streep, Pitt, and Clooney, was quoted as saying.
Tarantino has long been working with TWC for most of his films but has cut ties following Harvey Weinstein's sexual assault cases.
In an earlier interview with New York Times, the "Pulp Fiction" director said that he should have "taken responsibility" about the issue.
"If I had done the work I should have done then, I would have had to not work with him," he said.
Following the fallout, the film-maker will now be moving his upcoming movie project, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." The title features the acts of Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.
