Netflix rules in the race for small screen prestige versus long-time titleholder HBO, as the streaming service garners the most number of nominations for various Emmy awards.
The latest entertainment news from Wired said that Netflix receives this week a total of 112 Emmy nominations. HBO follows second with 108 nominations, while NBC trails along with 78 nominations.
Last year, HBO got the spot with 111 nominations, while Netflix picked up with 91, a report said.
HBO, which is currently best known for bringing to the TV the hit show, "Game of Thrones," has enjoyed for 17 years the recognition for being the most nominated network.
Meanwhile, Netflix received for the first time, its major nod for the breakout online-only web TV series, "House of Cards." This year, the internet streaming media provider received nominations for 40 of its original shows.
After "Crown," Netflix got 12 for "Stranger Things" including Outstanding Drama Series award, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing for A Drama Series.
This year, "Game of Thrones" still nabs the highest number of nominations as a show with 22. The HBO programming, which is based on the popular book series of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire," trail blazed with Outstanding Directing for A Drama Series, Outstanding Production Design, and Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, just to mention a few.
Other online streaming services also got to share the good news. For example, Hulu received 27 nominations, following its victory for Best Drama award with its winning show, "The Handmaid's Tale."
Amazon, on the other hand, is getting 22 nominations from the award-giving body. This includes the Best Comedy nod for its hit title "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."
Winners of the nominations will soon be announced at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards which will be held Monday, Sept. 17, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
According to earlier confirmations, the ceremony will be hosted by Colin Jost of "Saturday Night Live" and Michael Che.
