If you have your own business, the first thing you want is for it to be stable and successful. Every businessman has their strategy in making sure that the goals and objectives are met. And while others may be affected with this strategy, most business owners would say everything is just mere business, and no one should take it personally.
And just recently, a survey was conducted, and it seems like businessmen have new ways of hiring their employees. Owners already had their standard and women with children might be directly affected by this.
Hong Kong Employers Say 'No' to Women with Children
During an interview made with Hong Kong employers, they would always say that hiring women with children is their least priority today, even if their competence is equal to other applicants. Owners think that mothers have the responsibility to nurture their children on their own; without the need for hiring caregivers. This decision was not made due to mother's lack of competence and commitment. Experts told there is a deeper reason behind every strategy that business owners make.
The survey was conducted in four ways to make sure that every owner, whether big or small, will be heard. Processes include phone polls, in-depth interviews, personal survey and focus groups. The survey also allowed employees to talk; making sure that they will also voice out their opinions and perspective. 436 employers answered the survey while 1,030 employees took part in this research.
Because of this survey, experts were now drawn to study the decisions of business owners. Some would say that mothers are the primary victims of discrimination. All cases related to discrimination are rooted by either pregnancy or motherhood. Some employers already had a perception that once a woman considers being a mother, she is also considering its penalties and responsibilities. The decision would also allow some sacrifices, including loss of career opportunities and development.
Women Speak Up; Discrimination Should Be Abolished
Women, in light of the issue, would want to fix this kind of mindset in their place. Sources told that they would wish to improvements and adjustments, rather than giving them paid leaves and absences. They would still want to level up in the career that they are in right now, even if they will have kids in the future.
As of today, there is still no law that would capture the right of women to be mothers and at the same time career women.
