Just recently, Chinese Indonesians are eager to study Mandarin. Not just that, they are also drawn to sending their children to some of the premiere Chinese schools today. Sources told that these people would want to go back to their roots; resolving some of the conflicts that were done before.
Why Are Chinese Indonesians Coming Back To Their Roots?
An expert by the name of Anna Luli researched the Chinese Indonesians' decision. She told that the leaders before made such an impact on the people's lack of Mandarin knowledge. During the reign of dictator Suharto, this Indonesian leader rolled out a new order that would eliminate the Chinese culture in the country. This policy was made as this leader wouldn't want to be associated with communism.
Because of this, specific arrangements and adjustments were made by the Chinese Indonesian community. They were forced to adopt another name that resembles the Indonesian language. Also, all Chinese schools and publications were immediately closed. Even the Chinese language and culture were banned; proving that the barrier between China and Indonesia was so serious.
However, everything started to change when another leader rose from the nations. During the reign of former president Abdurrahman Wahid, he tore down all walls that would bring disunity to both countries. Chinese Indonesians were encouraged to go back to their roots without depriving them of the rights as Indonesians. Since then, these people took an ample amount of time to learn about the Chinese culture and its language - Mandarin.
Efforts To Learn Chinese Culture and Mandarin
Other than that, Chinese Indonesians told their children to relearn the culture and start enrolling in Chinese schools. With these opportunities, Chinese Indonesians would have a significant advantage than the others. They could master three languages that are vital in relating with other people in all parts of the world. These three languages include English, Mandarin, and Indonesian.
People would also want to learn Mandarin not just because of their family background, but they also want to use it as an advantage in their business. Because of the technology today, companies would want to level up their game and learning an advance language could be one of the top priorities.
Even the students, they would want to learn multiple languages as this could help them to connect with other people. This would also challenge them to be better in everything that they will do. As they learn this language, they would be able to speak globally and talk to the world.
