President Donald Trump must be impeached and the impeachment process must start now, according to a new political survey involving American voters.
A new poll by The Washington Post-ABC News released over the weekend shows the percentage of Americans that want Trump impeached is 13 points higher than his approval rating, among other bad news for Trump. The same poll also shows 49 percent of respondents urging Congress should begin impeachment proceedings while 46 percent said Congress should not.
More worrying for Trump is that 60 percent of respondents disapprove of how Trump is handling his job while 36 percent said otherwise. In contrast, Trump's job disapproval rating in an April Washington Post-ABC poll stood at 56 percent while his approval rating was 40 percent.
A poll released by The Wall Street Journal and NBC News the week before last found Trump had a 44 percent approval and 52 percent disapproval rating among general voters. Trump's average approval rating since he became president is the lowest of any modern president since the 1940s, according to ABC News.
The Washington Post-ABC News also shows support for Mueller's investigation stands at 63 percent despite Trump's hysterical attempts to discredit the probe as a witch hunt. It further reveals that 52 percent of Americans strongly support the Mueller's probe.
Fully six in 10 or 61% of Americans believe Trump broke the law if Cohen's admissions are true that Trump ordered Cohen to pay hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels. The poll found out that 53% believe Trump obstructed the Mueller investigation in some way.
A huge 66% of those polled oppose a pardon for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Republicans also feel the same way but by a smaller number or 45%.
Trump also comes out badly in his dispute with Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The survey shows that 62% of respondents back Sessions while 64% oppose the idea of Trump firing Sessions. Most Republicans, or 78% of respondents, approved of Trump's efforts in the White House.
The four-month gap between The Washington Post-ABC News polls makes it hard to link the increase in Trump's disapproval rating to specific developments. Other polls report Trump's disapproval percentage in the low- to mid-50s. Most polls haven't surveyed Americans since Manafort was convicted and Cohen pleaded guilty. Both these events occurred on Aug. 21.
The poll surveyed 1,003 random adults and was conducted from Aug. 26 to 29. It had a margin of error is 3.6 points.
