Former government leaders and research experts from both sides of China and the US call their leaders attention to rationally address the continuously inflamed trade war. They appealed that both sides should stop exchanging tariffs on each other to loosen up the tensions of their trade frictions.

The appeal was held by the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University last week with the attendance of the Asia Society in New York with the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Brookings Institution in Washington.

There were at least 40 participants in the convention and they had "full and Frank" discussions on the trade conflicts between the two nations. According to a Chinese delegation, the purpose of the convention is to try to find the right path that may resolve the trade dispute and encourage the two governments to engage in talks.

The participants agreed that the trade dialogues during the critical moment of the China-US trade and economic relations were conducive in promoting "understanding and Cooperation" between the two conflicting governments and it is essential in resolving the issues between them.

The dialogue is the first meeting of "think tanks" of the two countries since earlier last year after the start of the escalating tariff war of the two economies which was triggered by a series of unilateral policies adopted by the Trump Administration.

The meeting is a response to the conclusion of the US Administration proposing another 25 percent duties on$200 billion worth of Chinese imports. The two economies have already exchanged billions of dollars' worth of tariffs lately.

Important people from China were present during the meet. Representatives from China included Fu Ying, vice-chairperson of the foreign affairs committee of the 13th National People's Congress, Former vice-commerce minister Zhu Guangyao, and vice-foreign minister He Yafei.

It was stated in the discussions that the US is facing hard obstacles because of the pressure of socio-political and economic transformation and it will only worsen if they will continue on taking it upon China as a scapegoat.

According to the participants, the two countries are better working together. They should enjoy a complementary economic and trade cooperation. They added that it is unrealistic to attempt to separate China from the US or the world economy. They considered China as an integral part of the global economy and it is also a reliable source of growth for all nations.
