Following the unveiling of a new Corolla Hatchback, Japanese carmaker Toyota has also unveiled a new wagon that boasts of best-in-class features, the 2019 Toyota Corolla Touring Sports wagon.
Toyota says that this all-new model, set to make its first appearance during the Paris Motor Show in October, features a dynamic design that's visibly different from the hatchback. It's designed for those who want the practicality of a wagon, with added good looks, Toyota added.
Reflecting Toyota's focus on hybrid electric technology, the Corolla Touring Sports will be the first to make use of Toyota's "dual hybrid strategy" -- models will come with just one conventional 114bhp 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine, combined with either a 120 bhp 1.8-liter or 178bhp 2.0-liter hybrid electric powertrains.
Toyota worked on improving their current 1.8-litre hybrid unit, allowing for quieter operation and improved performance. The hybrid unit also offers self-charging EV technology and low cost of ownership benefits. The new 2.0-liter hybrid system also offers these qualities, along with additional riding and driving comforts thanks to the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) GA-C platform.
The Corolla Touring Sports also boasts of best-in-class legroom, thanks to a wider wheelbase. At a whopping 2700mm, CarAdvice notes that this is 60mm wider than the one found in the recently unveiled Corolla hatchback, and Motor1 notes that it is also wider than the Skoda Octavia Combi's. Obviously, the Corolla Touring Sports was designed for a more comfortable ride.
The Touring Sports' trunk has a load space of 598 liters, able to carry a lot of cargo. This isn't very large compared to the Octavia Combi, but it's significantly larger than that of the Auris Touring Sports, which it replaces.
Toyota wasn't content to provide consumers with a huge trunk; they also fitted the Touring Sports with a suspension system that can take on the load: tested and proven MacPherson strut arrangements in front and an all-new multilink system for the car's rear.
For those who can afford it, Toyota will release high-end models that feature a premium heads-up display, wireless mobile phone charging, the Toyota Touch entertainment system, and the JBL GreenEdge Premium sound system.
The new wagon also boasts of a few more things: a low center of gravity perfect for handling, a roofline that gives it the look and feel of an estate car, flared wheel arches that give it a sporty look, widely spaced LED lamps and a catamaran-inspired rear bumper.
The Corolla Touring Sports will come in four optional two-tone color schemes, with the base color flattered with a black roof, black pillars, and black front grille surround.
