The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile could be the answer most laptop gamers looking for. If rumors are correct, the GPU manufacturer is planning to launch a slimmer version of its newest and most powerful graphics card specifically designed for slimmer gaming laptops. What this means to laptop gamers is that their hardware might soon experience a performance boost making them on par with powerful desktop platforms.

Laptop GPU Catching Up To Once More

Most hardcore gamers have the tendency to show preference on gaming desktops over laptops. The main reason for this is that going after a desktop setup is the most cost-effective route. For the same price, gamers will usually get a more powerful gaming desktop.

But aside from their mere cost consideration, desktops can be easily upgradable compared to laptops. And, until the recently introduced 10-series cards, laptop GPUs are usually slower compared to their desktop counterparts. The GPU performance gap became an issue once more with the launching of the nVidia RTX 2080 which was clocked to be 35 times faster than the previous model.

But that gap could be short-lived, that is if speculations are correct. According to recent reports, Nvidia might be planning a mobile version of its latest Turing GPU, the RTX 2080, which makes the playing field even once more.

GeForce 2080 Mobile GPU Listing Spotted

Rumors about Nvidia possibly launching a mobile version of its latest Turing GPU are now circulating among tech and gaming circles. WccfTech reported that the company might be rolling out the RTX 2080 Mobile GPU soon based on its Github listing of its Turing lineup as given below:

Turing TU102: 1e02, 1e04, 1e07

Turing TU102GL: 1e30, 1e3c, 1e3d

Turing TU104: 1e82, 1e87

Turing TU104M: 1eab

Turing TU106: 1f07

Meanwhile, Digital Trends likewise reported this possibility. Interestingly, the publication got the listing from a totally different source, which somehow increases the credibility of these rumors. According to the report, the listing was made at the Device Hunt site for a processor described as "GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile" and a device ID of 1eab.

Comparing both the Digital Trends and WccfTech reports, it does appear that both of them refer to the same processor. Both listings have the device ID of 1eab and, more importantly, both device listings have the suffix "M" which indicates it could be for a laptop. What's even more interesting is that the Device Hunt listing specifically mentioned that it is the GeForce RTX 2020 Mobile.

At the moment, Nvidia has not made any announcements of a GeForce RTX 2080 mobile. One possible reason, according to Digital Trends, is that the company might just be waiting until the inventory of existing GTX 10xx Mobile series is depleted before it makes the existence of a mobile version official.
