Apple has rocked the smartphone world once more with the unveiling of their new iPhone class. The iPhone XS and iPhone XR come with striking features that make them interesting mobile phones to get in the market.
Pricing remains a concern although the best recourse is to hook up with a mobile carrier and purchase one at a staggered or lower monthly fee. This will include a lock-in period, a fine print that some may or may not mind. Several carriers in the United States have made their pitches, a mix that also includes trade-ins, rebates and package deals with other iPhone units.
As mentioned in a previous post, the cost of the base model of the iPhone XS starts at $1,000 with the value incrementally going up from there. There are two variants to choose from: the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. The former sports a 5.8-inch OLED display while the latter has a larger one at 6.5-inches, 9 to 5 Mac said.
Beyond that, another curious feature is Apple’s A12 chip – something that they recently trademarked. After the iPhone unveiling last week, the company filed a couple of trademarks using Chinese text in Hong Kong. Looking over the coverage of the filed trademark, it seems pretty clear that the A12 Bionic is associated with holograms together with augmented and virtual reality displays.
Gaming and realistic visual representation come to mind and also potentially reels in the use of virtual reality headsets, goggles, and other optical-related peripherals. Also, it somehow reinforces another patent Apple had filed on a Head-Mounted Display System that supports AR, VR and Holographic content. According to Apple, the lenses will be tunable and the headset will be able to use Siri for controls and more, Patently Apple said.
One can just ponder on what Apple is up to although everything seems to point at something big and in line with the fast-evolving trend in visual displays and representation.
Of course, the iPhone XS is not the only one that came out. The iPhone XR, branded as the cheaper device to get for folks who are wary of shelling out big investments, comes with features that Apple had trademarked as well.
This is with reference to the edge-to-edge “Liquid Retina” display which they trademarked in Hong Kong in Chinese text as well. It was filed under International Class 09 covering hardware such as monitors, display screens, head-mounted displays, AR displays, goggles, eyeglasses and more.
