Fans are excited about "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4," especially its battle royale mode, "Blackout." Now that the beta is closed, Treyarch is working on improving the game just in time for the October release. And thanks to fan-feedback, players can expect a better game once it's out.
In a lengthy interview with Game Informer, Treyarch Studio Design Director David Vanderhaar was asked a lot of questions pertaining to the game. Some of these were serious gameplay questions like "will there be 100 player Blackout lobbies at launch" or "can you describe Treyarch's thoughts on armor," and some are pretty fun questions like "will you (Vanderhaar) be a playable character?"
One of the key questions Vanderhaar didn't have any final answer to, however, was the question on custom games.
GameRant notes that fans want a custom game mode because it will give them freedom and enough space to master key aspects of Blackout's huge map. It's pretty logical -- it will be very difficult for new players to master, or at least practice, some necessary in-game skills if they are more worried about getting sniped or killed by an enemy than they are about mastering aiming and other important things.
So, will Blackout feature custom games?
Vanderhaar said his boss thinks inserting a custom game mode would be a great idea. While he said that he actually hopes that the team behind the game would really be able to implement custom game modes, he really cannot "confirm or deny" if Blackout will have one.
He explained that Treyarch does have a clear picture of how custom games would work in Blackout, and that they development team is working on it. He doesn't, however, say if Blackout will have such a mode or not at all.
Players will just have to wait for near-release, or the actual release, to find out if Blackout will have custom games.
Other things
Aside from custom game modes, Vanderhaar was also asked about other things like maps, leveling up mechanics, and ranked play.
Vanderhaar said that while he can't announce anything about the future of the game map, "they're sick" and he "can't wait" for it to be revealed.
Players, he said, won't be able to go past level 80. Those who want to level up must get kills and finish in the Top-10 before they can level up.
For those who like Ranked Play, Vanderhaar says Blackout won't have such a feature. This is officially confirmed.
