Tesla Inc. is now building its own car carriers in an attempt to ramp up production and deliveries of the sought after Tesla Model 3 to thousands of its reservation holders before the third quarter of this year comes to an end.

According to Reuters, the electric vehicle manufacturer is now upgrading its delivery logistics system after it managed to jump over the production hurdles.

In a Twitter post from the company's chief executive, Elon Musk, it was found out that Tesla is currently undergoing an extreme shortage of trailers especially-designed to transport the electric cars.

A follower of Musk in the aforementioned social media platform had inquired earlier about his order of a Model 3 All Wheel Drive (AWD) which he reportedly placed back in June. In his response, the tech entrepreneur seemed to imply that the deliveries should be completed once the needed units of car carriers will be met.

According to Teslarati, Musk did admit that much of the EV factory's problems are more concerned on logistical issues which it seeks to address by implementing some unconventional strategies such as building its own carriers.

This solution, as pointed out by the industry follower, is indeed an unusual move to be made by an automaker. What usually happens is for a car company to use these trailers to transport new vehicles coming straight from the manufacturing plant and distribute them to different dealerships.

Tesla, however, doesn't follow this kind of business model since it sells cars directly to the consumers. In an earlier interview with Musk, the South African investment mogul said that aside from product placements, the brand relies mostly on the word of mouth for them to make sales.

In the same conversation, Musk mentioned Tesla's economy of scale wherein the company is very much limited in its resources to produce, sell, and deliver its goods. In comparison, big companies like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes Benz have the needed capacity to manufacture and dispose of a huge number of cars than Tesla can.

Meanwhile, Musk didn't specify on the details about the self-designed and manufactured car carriers. Industry watchers, however, are quite expectant on what the company has in store in this particular issue.

Increased Production Volume

According to Electrek, Tesla is now gaining steam on its production status with over 4,000 Model 3's being made for a week. This comes after the intense pressure being placed on Musk to prove that the company can deliver its promises. In retrospect, this comes as good news especially to those who have long been waiting to get hold of their new Tesla.
